07 es350 xmission flair
My 07 es350 xmission was "flairing" between third and fourth gear. Took it to the Dealer, Rosevill eLexus, on 11/7. Got a call on 11/8 stating they were putting in a new xmission. Carshould be ready on Fri. 11/11. Now THAT is a fix. Hope it works out. PS, done under powewr train warranty'

enlighten someone on the word 'flair' or 'flare' that is so prevalent on forums. Is it a slippage between gears(engine speeds up) and does it occur mostly when throttle is down or car going up an incline? Wonder exactly how you know between which gears (since there is now 6 total); do you start off from standstill with throttle down and count changes?
Thanks~~~
glad things worked out for you.

flairing issue
My es 350 (07) when cold would flair, slip gears or be seeking a gear during the change from third to fourth gear. Tach would go from1800rpm to 3000rpm before fourth gear was found. Problem to be corrected by a new xmission under power train warrenty. Hope that answers your question Button.

Have to bring mine in as well.. Hope I won't get hassles or claims that they didn't find anything wrong in the first place. Guys this should be covered under our standard powertrain warranty right?

My issue was apparently a low transmission fluid level. They checked for leaks and could not find any. They also flashed the car with the new shifting software as well so apparently that fixed the problem.
This wasn't covered under the powertrain and cost me about $180. Disappointed that I had to pay but its better than a bigger problem later on I guess.

The flare problem was quite a big topic on this forum back in the early days of the current gen ES350. If there are archives kept of the forum topics that far back, I'm sure you can find some very interesting posts by some members.
I had the flare problem in my '07 ES and in 2008 I had its software flashed just to have it flare on me on the drive home. I brought it back to the dealership and they replaced the transmission. No issues since.
