2007 vs 2008 what do you think
Hello everybody,
I am planning to buy 2007 or 2008 Lexus ES 350 with Nav. for my parents. So my question is there significant difference between 07 and 08. I know that engine was slightly redesign.
Also would you get 07 with low miles or 08 but with more miles?
Thank you.

Neither
The es350 07 and 08 has a design defect in the side windows..The plastic tabs that hold the window are built into the glass..Cannot be repaired.. Has to have a new side window installed..Cost at the local dealer $660...Also the window pinch protector has to be reset while the door panel is off....In 09 Lexus issued a TSB stating that if the window starts to make a popping sound, it should be visually inspected and replaced if cracked...Lexus will do the replacement free of charge only if the the car has less than 50k and within four years....If you check out the other treads, you can determine if this is a common problem..In my opinion, it is..One poster had 4 windows replaced, three within warranty and one out of warrany..He eventually sold his 07.......Thought this info might be of use ........My 07 started the popping noise at 55k, at 60k with 49 months....the window came off track....Lexus chose not to replace it FOC

I've had my 2007 since new. Bought it in November of 2006. There is no difference in the engine design between 2007 and 2008. These two model years are identical except for some very minor aesthetics. I too had my driver side window come off the track about 2 years ago. It was replaced under warranty. Other than that, I've had no problems with the car. It has 46,000 miles on it and drives beautifully. I would get the car that has the best combination of miles and features for the price. Either model year will serve you well.

I found one in Long Beach it's 2008 with 41k miles asking price $23.9k. And ad you all mention when I checked Carfax it says window service in 2009 (dealer replaced it) I will try to offer them 23$ even

Overall the early 2007 models with a manufacture date of 10/06 or so and earlier were a ltitle more problem prone. The later the manufacture date the better.
My 07 was good to me until I got in a wreck - replaced it with a 2008.
The main difference between 07 and 08 is that they redesigned the sideview mirrors - made them slightly smaller to help wind noise or something. I didn't notice any difference in noise between my 07 and 08 though. The visual difference is very slight and can only be spotted if the cars are side by side.
Other differences are upper console buttons (map light, moon roof controls) are dark grey instead of matching the bezel. They also put additional LED lighting above the rear window doors and got rid of the pop-out hanger hooks.
If you have the Navigation option, the DVD is one revision newer on the 2008 and that update got rid of the "I agree" button that you have to press everytime you start the car. If you update the 2007's standard Nav DVD you'll remove this also.
So far my 2008 seems a little more solid - has less rattles, which is common on these cars.

Madmax thank you for your response I am pretty set on 2008 based on all response I got. This is my 5th Lexus I am very happy with the Lexus quality. I offered them 23.2k for the 2008 with 41k miles I am pretty sure I will buy this car. My only concern is it has 41k miles do I need to do any services? Like trans. Fluid?

I bought a 2008 about 3 months ago. I hope you are getting it from a dealer and that it is a certified preowned car. Mine was and with 47,000 miles on it, I get a 3000 unlimited warrenty ( to 50,000) and drive train for 3 years. That means a lot; don't buy it otherwise. But you are 'stealing' the car at that price !!!! I also got a 2010 update DVD on the Nav software thrown in with the deal.
The other thing is: DO NOT BUY A CAR WITHOUT A NAV SCREEN AND A BACKUP CAMERA. Without it you can hardly see to back up.
I would never buy a used Lexus without a Certified Warrenty and that Only comes from a dealer--assume all but I am not sure on that. Car is warrented for 3 years after 50,000 miles.

If the car isn't a CPO, please do yourself a favor and have a mechanic of your choosing go over the car.
While Lexus vehicles generally are pretty reliable - owners can still be negligent.
As you probably also know, Carfax reports can be a bit misleading... people find ways to have things not reported that you end up discovering well after the purchase. While you might have some recourse, it's just a huge hassle and you're pretty much stuck anyway.
I got my 2008 a few months ago with 46k miles, it was a CPO and I paid $27k. I should note it's also pretty loaded - Nav, park assist, sunshade, rain sensing wipers, driver's cushion extender, etc.. even the factory XM module is installed. Just no ML or UL package.
Good luck on the purchase, I'm sure you'll enjoy the ES once you find the right one.
