Default Es 350 brake job estimate

I noticed last week that when i drive in reverse my brake gives out a squeaking sound (the Lexus dealer also recommended i do a brake job during my next visit). I called this morning for an estimate and this are prices i was quoted.

Front pads (parts & labor) $334.50
Rear pads (parts & labor) $268.14
Front pads/w rotors replaced (parts & labor) $687.09
Rear pads/w rotors replaced (parts & labor) $704.31

These prices seem outrageous.

What kind of prices have you paid for your brake jobs? Is it a good idea to use a reputable non-dealer shop to fix my brakes?

Thanks

You might check with a Toyota dealer and compare prices. They'll probably be lower. Other reputable shops are a good alternative too.

The front pads (04465-33470) are $126 and the rear pads (04466-06090) are $62 from my local Lexus dealer. It is a very simple matter to install them yourself. You'll obviously save a bundle.

I haven't checked on rotors, but they are easy to replace and the savings will probably be just as great.

Always get my parts at Rockauto.com. The best front and rear CERAMIC pads are less than $50. per set. Heavy duty rotors are less than $50. Have run both on an LS for probably 100,000 miles (plus have on my Ford F150); these parts can be made in the USA.
OR: you can get genuine Lexus front and rear pads at Irontoad.com for $45. each set; that friends you can't beat. and yes, install yourself [with a friend if necessary--like falling off a log]

One of the main reasons I got the ES was that things like brake jobs HAD to be cheaper than that of my LS with the 4-piston calipers.

These have to be the same brakes as a Camry aren't they?

Yup - just checked Autozone's website. They list the same front brake pads for both a 2008 Camry V6 and 2008 ES350.

Even just visiting your Toyota parts counter instead of the Lexus parts counter will probably be cheaper.

BUT I don't think you'll do better than Irontoad for OEM Toyota pads, as mentioned - so unless you need them tomorrow you might as well order there.

I am going to assume that Overclock is asking me that question. I am totally satisfied with the new rotors and ceramic pads. My buddy, the mechanic, noted that the after market rotors that we put on were much heavier that the original stock rotors. Hopefully, they will not warp as bad as the stock ones.

Keep in mind that if your rotors are warped there is a TSb out for that which means that they will turn them at no cost and also replace the pads at no cost. I had front and rear pads replaced and front rotors turned at no cost about 4000 miles ago and no problems so far. The service advisor told me that it would have cost about $1000 if I would have paid for it.

TSBs only apply if you're under the original 4yr/50k warranty though.

My brakes pulsated real hard a couple of times when braking downhill and I started looking at rotor replacement costs. I then found this warped disc myth

What do you guys think of this ? Is the warping similar to the 3000 mile oil change ?

On a side note - How do I check for warped rotors (no special tools) on the 2007 ES 350 ?

I just had mine done, both front and rear, cost me almost $600 ($283.88 each end of the car). I'm in Houston, so I guess the price depends on your region. I was told Lexus uses softer brake pads so they don't ruin the rotors.

To check for warped rotors all you need to do is pull the wheel and using a dial indicator check for run out of the rotor while turning by hand. Simple process.
