cup holder cover

My 07 ES, 37k the cup holder cover will not stay closed ,I push it down and it pops open. Is there a dyi fix to this?

Mine has a slightly different problem -- it opens v-e-r-y slowly, like something got spilled on the mechanism. I've thought about popping it open to see if I could improve it, but so far I haven't been motivated enough to investigate how.
