Looks like he got it from Toby and it may have been while Toyota was
having a hard time after their recalls (hence the reduced price).
Toby's current price is higher i think.

Anyway, I am in the same boat - 07 Lexus with 36K miles and factory
warranty expiring in May 2011.

I bought it used and service records show all regular maintenance and
a item for "NAVIGATION COMPUTER" - not sure what that is.
Also, I had the passenger window glass pop out (see TSB) and got it
replaced under the warranty.

I am debating the warranty myself and here are some points to consider.

Lexus is ranked the first or second most reliable car.
Car is performing normally so far.
07 was the first year of the ES350 model
Car has navigation and other electronics.
Extended warranties are generally a money maker for the seller.

Now, let us roll the dice

If you search the forums you'll see there have been several threads on this topic. The summary of all I've read is the ES 350 is extremely reliable and not much breaks on them when cared for properly. My 07 has 64k and all I've had is one coil go bad...

My 2007 RX350 will be 4 years old next month. And it was time to look at an Extended Warranty.

I have been looking around. And found a thread on the GS section. Which turned out to be the best deal I could find.

I got a 6 year 70,000 miles Lexus Factory Extra Care platinum Zero Deductible Warranty for little over 800 dollars.

I bought a 2007 with only 12,000 miles on it from Lexus of Kendall down in Miami. It was just a few months out of warranty and the dealer did not put it through the CPO process because apparently they have to pay around $900 to Lexus in addition to their costs for inspecting/repairing the car for the CPO status and because it had so few miles they felt it would have been a waste of money.

This was my first higher end car (previoulsy owned nissan, toyota and honda) so I was worried about the cost of any repairs. The dealer offered to certify it for $1,600 which would have given me 3yrs or 100k miles. This also reduced my loan rate down to 2.9%. But then they gave me the option to go with the platinum warranty instead which was 5yrs or 60k miles (on top of the current mileage).

This essentially gave me two more years of warranty coverage since I only drive about 12k miles a year. The warranty was $2,000 (according to this thread I got screwed here). However, they reduced the loan rate down to 2.3% so basically my payment went up about $3/month on a 5-year loan so I didn't sweat it to much. I definitely sleep better at night knowing that my car will be nine years old before it goes out of warranty.

Purchased an 08 in 2009. I purchased the extended warranty just for peace of mind. (I traded in a XC90 volvo that I had just put a $4,000 transmission in at 70,000 miiles). So for me, peace of mind was/is very important. So far, I have not had to use the warranty and I hope I never do have to!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace of mind is critical, but that's why we bought a Lexus in the first place. We've done our homework and know that it's generally a solid, reliable car.

If it were my money, I'd pass on getting an extended Lexus warranty for lower mileage cars especially if you've owned it for awhile so you know it's maintenance / repair history. Nothing should be wearing out anytime soon and if something was going to break, it probably already would have done so. That's just my $0.02 though.

For higher mileage cars, I'd strongly consider it given the "relatively" inexpensive price tag (just over a $1K or so) from the friendly dealers mentioned in this thread and others.

For those of you who think you can decline the extended warranty then put the same money in a "high yield" account and be in a better position, think again. There is no "high yield" account that is fairly liquid to be had for a $50,000 deposit let alone $1,300. What kind of interest will you get? 1%?

With inflation on the rise (and it is) you'll never be better off financially by investing the $1,300 and hoping it will grow to more than what you would have paid for the policy. As far as the decision to get an extended warranty, that's subjective and relative to the amount of risk you're comfortable with. I got an additional 3 years and 100,000 miles of -0- deductible protection. I now have no concerns about a significant issue. It's just like any insurance. You get it but hope you don't need to use it.
