Default What to check?

Hi. I am a new member here. Tomorrow I am going to test drive a 2007 Lexus ES350 with Ultra Luxury package (every available option (exept Adaptive Cruise Control and Pre-collision system), it has 86 000 miles on it and I would like to hear from you, what are the places/spots I have to check carefully? Any common problems?

Thank you.

My ES350 2008 UL has the same mileage now so i'm well placed to answer. BTW, great buy since the UL is very rare. Until now, the car is problem free. What did break: the bracket that hold the front passenger window broke (repair it myself) , rear bushing (mainly my fault) , that is it...... Maintenance wise, i took very care of it: synthetic oil, rust proofing, change the brake and transmission fluids. Change the engine filter and cabin filter. Pretty much like all other cars. My next stop is the water pump and spark plugs, it is not broken, as preventive measures.

My mechanic told me that car will last easily 200k miles plus with no problem, he had car with 300k miles, the key is to take care of the scheduled maintenance. Parts will brake, but is rare.

Of what i've heard: ML sub and amplifier tend to blow (not on mine, use your head, don't crank the volume high all the time).

hope that help.

If you trully try to put a Mileage on how long the car will last i am not a firm believe in doing this cause there is really no way of telling what the real lifetime of a part or car is its all down to how we or you take care of your care
if you do preventive maintenance properly who knows if it will ever die if you don't do it properly then things can happen .
Like any part if it moves or has mechanics in it it can and will break eventually

I bought my 07 with under 40k i think now its 84k so over 40k and 16 months
what i have had to replace all done under warranty

the Front pasanger side CV joint was leaking Lexus replaced that. at 44k
the Front and rear struts where leaking fluid the front outer tie rods both sides and both side stab link bushing where bad at 79k extended service contract replaced those.

Water pump was leaking at 81k Extended service contract covered that.

Things i have done that have not been covered by contract because they are preventive and need to be done to take care of the car has been
Fuel Injection system cleaning. Oil changed every 4500-5000 regular oil no need for full syn in our cars. and almost all dyno oils have a synthetic blend if they are brand name oils these days.
Transmission fluid system flush service at dealer just this past month.
Exterior Drive belt replaced at 80K for preventive maintenance.
Cooling system flush, Power break flush last time i had breaks done at 50k
power steering fluid flush was done just for preventive piece of mind at 50k

as of last week when i had the trans fluid changed with 84k on the 07 es350
everything is perfect nothing wrong with it.

It really comes down to how it was taken care of before you bought it.

are you buying from private owner or dealer ?

From Lexus dealer. They took it couple days ago, it was a trade in. I spoke with manager and she told me that the stereo was the problem so they replaced it with a new unit.

would you be opposed to a extended service contract ?
if you can still get one from Lexus Directly i would go with that one
If you can't from lexus ask if they have
a warranty group they sell for EFG INC
or Fidelity
or simplicity.

These warranty contract company's will not cover a car unless it goes through a full inspection of every component and passes before they approve a contract so i always go with these company and won't buy a car unless it passes inspection and the dealer gives me coverage within the first 1000 mile loophole that warranty company wont cover.

These company are good also because they cover things that you might not think a warranty company would cover
would you ever think that a service contract would cover suspension components as in struts and shocks ?
i bet not but mine is EFG and simplicity and it does and did.
if your worried about what to look out for and what might go bad
then best to get a service contract with it
say 10k down the road you have never had to use your contract
you can always request a full refund from these comanys and they will look at the miles you drive and then how long left on the contract and refund a prorated amount or within the first 30 days uaualy a full refund in the entire purchase amount

The problem is this car will be shipped overseas so the warranty won't play a big role.

I just need a clean car with every component checked. I believe in Lexus so it should drive well.
