Default 10K Synthetic Change Oil?

I recently picked up an '11 ES350 and was told by the dealer that my first service is complementary. (Typical for all the Lexus I've purchased new).

What was surprising to me was I was told that I only need to bring the car in for service at 10,000 miles. Supposedly the 2011 are using synthetic oil.

Can anyone verify?

Thanks,

Ask the service manager what oil they are using. The dealer that I got my 2010 uses 5-30 dino oil but still required the free oil change at 10,000 miles. Although the newer oils both dino or syn. can go for that long I don't wait that long. I did the first oil change myself at 3500 miles and had the dealer do the 10k change at 7000 miles. I have not reached 10K miles yet but the car is only 10 months old. I will now stay on a 5K oil change cycle. This is my preference and I will still use dino oil. Good luck.

If the 2011's are being delivered with synthetic maybe there is something in the owners manual, or a sticker under the hood etc. to confirm it.

I just got my new es 350 2010 last weekend and was told I need oil change service every 5k. The first time service is free, I think the 1st time I bring in for service should be 5k or 6 month.

But the manual says the 1st time is free for 1k or 1 month, and second time is also free for 5k. Which is right?

I think the 1st time 1k is just a check on things to see if there are any problems or questions. No oil change or service. The 5k is a regular service with oil, filter change, tire rotation etc. So both are free but just one is a service visit.

I think you need to call a service writer because I was confused by this too. Ended up it has to be done before 10k and my service writer told me 5k is the service interval. They used Kendall oil and yea inwasnt so happy because they wanted 90 bucks for cheap dino
oil... Yea I've been doing it myself since 35 bucks for mobil one synthetic and filter. I hate the oil filters one these cars what a pita design.

When new back in '06, I did my '07 at 1,000 miles with regular oil, then took it to the dealer for the free one at 5,000 miles with regular oil and then changed over to Mobil One after that. Mine is more time orientated than mileage based, changing every quarter rather than miles.

The only oil change I ever allowed the dealer to perform was the free one, they over filled the oil so ever since I haven't trusted the stealerships with my car. That aside, I've been using synthetic but keeping the 5K mile interval. I personally feel it's a cheap way to make sure $35 worth of maintenance doesn't ruin a $42K car...

I had used Mobile 1 5w-30 full synthetic but noticed a think oil build up in the bottom of the oil filter housing so at 20K miles I switched to Penzoil Platinum 5w-30 and that film has not shown itself again.

I recently sent an oil sample out for analysis and the result of the test (which also looked at the remaining additives) was I can likely go to 6,500 miles between oil changes. I plan to do this and re-test.

Good luck,
Paul

I have a 2009 and my dealer uses a synthetic blend, with 5k service intervals. 10k seems a little long IMO. 1st 5k service was free, this is standard Lexus policy.

I just bought a 2011 ES350 2 days ago. Funny reading this beacause one saleslady said I can change the oil every 10,000 miles. I asked her if that is because it is synthetic oil? She looked at me like I had 2 heads. Obviously didn't know. She checked with another salesman and he said no it's every 5000 and it is not synthetic, but they may use synthetic in the future. It's a lease so i'll just go with the 5000 miles and conventional oil. If I was buying I would put in synthetic at the first oil change which is what I did with my '08 Yukon.

It should take standard dino and changed every 5k. Reading the 0W-20 fact sheet from Lexus, the only models calling for synthetic are 2010 RXs, GXs, HSs. And 2011 IS250 2/4WD IS250C. Everything else is 5W30 or 5W20. In the case if the LS460, synthetic is optional, but 5W20 can be run too. In dino, the first 1K(looking over car and LPS) and 5K(oil change) are free. In synthetic it's the first 5K(same as old 1K) and 10K(oil change) are free.

the ES line doesnt use the synthetic oil just yet. i have done a couple services already and still use regular oil. id bring it in ever 5k for the oil. only ones so far that have 10k oil changes are GX460, Hs250, Rx350, etc. LS460 uses synthetic oil but still should be changed every 5k due to engine design.

offroad200.. i def wouldnt run any other oil in a ls460 but the synthetic oil they suggest. ive already seen a couple ls460's engines lock up from non synthetic oil (over 30k of non syn. oil)

My father owned an 07 ES350 and my buddy owns an 09 V6 Camry, both engines took the same amount of oil, which was 6.4 quarts, usually we just put the whole 7 in, but with the ES running 5k intervals on dino and the Camry running 5k on Synthetic, I would say these engines are extremely delicate on the oil and running 10k on synthetic is more then possible, the ES woud have probably been ran to 7500 but Toyota/Lexus did away with that interval.

I've tried to convince my buddy to do 7500-10k on his oil, at 5k he changes his oil every 3 months.

Lastly the owners manual is always on point, never listen to a sales person

Lexus says it's perfectly alright to run 5W20. We haven't seen any issues yet with LS460 motors. Obviously, you change the oil every 5k. I think the biggest problem is that a few people still don't do that. Or they don't drive their car enough and only put a few thousand miles a year on it. So, therefore only change the oil every year or so. Are you saying it locks up with 30k between oil changes? Who waits that long between changes? We've got a customer with an 06 IS with only 8k miles. That can't be good for the car.
