2000 Lexus ES300 - Engine Coil Needs to be replaced
Hi,
Thanks for the information in the thread.. I have also got Check Engine Light flashing and TRAC OFF light was on. When I went to the service center. They diagnosed and said it ignition coil was gone. So needs to be replaced. They gave a quote for $1200 for 6 coils. When I searched in internet I have found these 6 coils are available for $300. Please suggest..is the quote is correct?

P0304
All,
What other reasons could be responsible for this P0304 code apart form coil. I was told water in fuel tank, air flow meter malfunction etc could also be a reason. Please other low hanging fruits before replacement of coil. Thanks!

Yes, bad fuel, lower octane level, spark plug, wiring, etc. can all cause the misfire...
To confirm if it is the coil #4, I would move coil #4 to e.g. #6 position and see if the misfire follows the coil...

Thanks, I swapped coil #4 for #6, after clearing the code. After 5 days the CEL and check vsc came back on, I scanned with obd2 tool, and P0304 returned, which implied it was not coil problem. One thing I also noted is that this code always come up on cold start, when the car has been parked for like 8-12hrs or more...... any other suggestion. Car is about 15k milies which doesnt make me think it could be spark plug (lexus maintenance manual recommends sparkplug change at 144 months or 120k miles)..........

Before throwing six new coils at this car I suggest you read the following: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0352

I had a P0354 error code pop up...went online...bought an ignition coil and replaced it last night. Drove around for a few miles with no problems. After lunch, P0352 came up... can it be that these coils are going bad one after the other or is there something else going on?

Something else is going on. Don't start throwing any more parts at this car.......get it looked at, including having a live data scan accomplished by someone who know what they are looking at.

Another tip, from owners manual: Gasoline quality - In very few cases, driveability problems may be caused by the brand of gasoline you are using. If driveability problems persist, try changing the brand of gasoline. If this
does not correct the problem, consult your Lexus dealer...

Paranoid I am .
If you compare part #s, the coils are the same on a dozen Toyota / Lexus models . Rock Auto has Denso coils for $60 , my 2009 had the # 4 coil burn up at 47,000 miles, so it was fixed under warranty, but my engine has always had a rough idle and kind on noisy ( for a Lexus ) , when I mentioned it to the Lexus dealership service writer he said nothing was wrong with it and said the noise was from the timing chain .
20,000 miles later I am still leary of it laying down on me again . I have been think about replacing coils 2 & 6 , because they are easy to get to and to lessen my fears 50 %.
