XM Fit Kit for ES350 (work-around)
I recently purchased a 2009 ES350, and I wanted to install the XM tuner. Like other ClubLexus Forum members experienced, the dealers were quoting $750-$1,200 for XM install (parts and labor). It should be an easy DYI project with all of the help here on the ClubLexus site. The ES350 XM Fit Kit (P/N 86100-0W190), however, is no longer available. I heard that Lexus had 2000 wiring harnesses made for the kits, sold them out, and isn't going to be making any more.
After reviewing a number of wiring diagrams, I discovered that the wiring harness in the 2009 IS fit kit (P/N 86100-0W220) has the same connectors and the same pin-to-pin wiring as the ES350 fit kit harness. Based on the wiring diagrams, it looks like some of the fit kits with the same connectors (such as the GX fit kit) may be wired differently. Attached is a spreadsheet that shows the connector pin wiring for the amp plugs that the XM wiring harness uses (GX, ES and IS).
In order to complete the installation I started with the XM fit kit for the IS and the ES350 tuner bracket and antenna (available separately). I had to add a 24 inch extension to the 5 conductor branch of the IS harness that plugs into the 6 pin connector in the trunk. The dark grey (almost black) wire in the harness is the shield for the cable, but I spliced it at the insulated end near the connector, and it works fine. The rest of the IS wiring harness fits the ES350 without needing to be extended. I used an 18 gauge, unshielded 5 conductor cable for the extension, splicing it with solder and shrink tubing. Had I known earlier that it was a shielded cable, I might have used a shielded cable for the extension.
I installed the hockey puck antenna on the outside of the rear window just above the right front corner of the trunk lid. Reception is great.

I'm running into issues with my GS350. Tried to have it professionally installed, but audio didn't work. Its been a week and I havent heard back from Sewell on an answer. The problem is I'm not technically savvy and I'm not the one doing the install. So I can't communicate to Sewell the exact problem, other than the end result of it not working.

FWIW, I utilized the VAIS XM adapter/receiver kit on our '07 after also discovering that factory XM parts/pieces were no longer available.
The VAIS kit interfaces perfectly with our NAV head unit, and we get excellent reception, barring excursions into deep canyons (like the Virgin River Canyon between St, George, UT and Mesquite, NV) where reception gets a bit spotty.
Total cost, including $100 for professional installation was $350. I'm OK with that.
