Default 10,000 mile or 1 year oil change

Does anyone have any information concerning the new oil change interval on the RX 350 with a free oil change @ 10,000 miles and extending the oil change interval to 10,000 or one year, using Synthetic Lexus Oil? My dealer said that it was only being done on the RX 350 and not the ES 350! (same engine). He did not know that if we changed our ES 350's oil change interval to a 10,000 or one year, using Lexus Synthetic oil, if it would void our warranty. Last month, a friend of mine in Denver received a letter from Lexus explaning the oil change items and they enclosed a updated insert sheet to place in his warranty book. He purchased the RX 350 in December 2009.

I've heard about the new oil change program for the RX, but nothing on it applying to the ES. I got my 2010 ES in January '10, and haven't receieved anything from Lexus regarding the 10k/1 yr oil changes.

Many of the 2010 Lexus models are being shipped with 0w20 synthetic motor oil. These vehicles will have 10k service intervals. Pre-2010 cars don't have synthetic but there's no reason why you can't change over. The new 2010 models display a window sticker explaining the use of 0w20.

In the unlikely event that you have an oil-related engine problem and you don't have receipts showing you followed the manufacturer's service schedule, you may find yourself up that "certain creek" without a paddle. Besides, oil's cheap. Might as well change it when you get your tires rotated every 5K.

What's the dealer say on changing to that 0w20 synthetic oil on pre-2010 models?

Change to oil/frequency affects the HS250h, RX350, RX450h and GX460. I saw the January memo from Lexus to the dealers last month while at the dealer. They had a copy out because people kept asking about it. I had received the updated maintenance requirements booklet before then so I was already aware of the change. And yes, the 12 month/10k service is free.

Default 10,000 mile oil change

Does anyone know if we can have the 10,000 oil change synthetic oil change applied to our 2010 Es 350's? Will this change void our Warrenty?

I haven't heard any official word from a dealership mentioned.

I asked my SA a few weeks ago and he gave me some lame/unofficial excuse like you need the inspections at 5K anyway. That's the last time I'll be dealing with that SA, btw.

I have another SA to ask when I book my next oil change (and pedal/ECU/mat recall) this summer.

IMO eventually Lexus service departments will have to have a consistent reply on use of approved synthetic oil, especially if half the product line has shifted over to the new oil and intervals.

I'm sure they'd prefer to have customers come in at 5k intervals vs. 10k. But if people are doing their own oil changes or going elsewhere, 10k is better than no service dept. visit at all.

Exactly, they need to get real since they compete with BMW (free service w/long intervals on Mobil 1) and Mercedes (10K intervals, 13K on pre-2009, on Mobil1). And giving lame excuses to knowledgeable customers doesn't fly real well.

My 2010 RX450h has 14,200 miles on it. Suddenly when I start the car I get the message: "OIL MAINTENANCE REQUIRED SOON". I had the synthetic oil changed at my local Toyota Dealership at 10,000 miles. Does anyone know how to reset the display/notice? Holding down the odo/trip will not reset on the 3rd. gen. Ant advice would be appreciated. It will save a trip to the dealer. thanks.

I don't have mine handy, but the instuctions are in the ES owners manual and probably are in the RX's too. It might be kind of hard to find, probably under the heading for oil changes or maintenance.

Look in your OM and it will tell you how to reset it. As for what oil is used my 2010 came from the dealer with 5W-30 Dino oil. I did my 1st oil change at 4K miles with 5-30 and let them do the 10K change and they used 5W-30. I'll do all of the rest of the oil changes until I sell the car. I only use the dealer for warranty issues if there are any. I have just turned 11K miles on the car so next change comes at 15K.
