Going to get my recall done on Tuesday and just filled up my tank full totaling $42, completely forgot about the thread. Maybe I should reschedule the service until next week so my tank down to empty?

So you're saying Lexus is refilling regular gas instead of premium? Does the ES even take regular? I've always used 91 octane, but would go for mid grade 89 if that doesn't hurt the engine. (I could careless about 2-4 HP)

Had all the recall work done last week along with the 15K service. No gas was added to my tank.
Did get to choose (and use) a 2010 ES or RX for the day at no cost. I had originally planned to wait at the dealership but they offered the loaner.

The gas debate has been going back and forth on this forum for years.

Here's the facts:
1. The Lexus ES 350 and the Toyota Camry use the same engine.
2. The Camry uses 87 octane.
3. The owner's manual (online at least) says to use 91.
4. The difference between the Lexus ES 350 and the Camry using the same engine is 6 HP.
5. The Lexus ES 350 gas tank holds 18.5 gallons. At a $0.20/gallon difference the extra cost to fill a completely empty tank is $3.70, or $192.40 per year if you fill up once a week from a completely empty tank.
6. I use 87 and have no problems.

My dealer told me the ES is tuned different then the Camry. I have a 04 ES and been using 89 octane since new. Sometimes I will run 87 - 93 mix. BP or Mobil. I would do a 87-93 mix. Buy good gas.

I try and alternate between 89 and 93. Giving me about a 91. Put new tires on in Dec. and my milage hasn't been as good as before. Had all the recalls (or whatever they want to call them) done at the beginning of Feb. and took it for a little ride to Florida and back had no problem what so ever. Best milage was 29 mpg at about 79 mph. It worked fine, no problem and never looked down once to see the pedal. Now both the front mats match, where before the driver side and passenger side were different. Had the drivers side replaced about a year ago. The only thing that I didn't like was them not putting on the metal oil line, but putting on a different rubber one again. They didn't even know there was a metal one. I told them the number and they checked it out and then told me that that number was a good one, but had to check it out further. I'll have to check and see what they found out. I bet nothing. Not real sure if another Toyota product is in my future.

My dealer didn't know anything about the metal line either. They said they'd only install the new rubber one. I'm fine with that. If they're saying the old rubber compound was defective and the new rubber compound isn't I believe it. They're the ones paying for the recall.

They did the shaved pedal and ECU reprogram as well. I told them I wanted the new gas pedal when it comes out and the dealer said they'd notify me when it was ready and they'd install it for free.

Cleaned inside and out and a full tank of gas to boot. I'm satisfied.

That is, did you do the same experiment *before* you had the fix applied to your vehicle?

No I didn't because I did not even think of it until I saw that Lexus reprogrammed the ECU.

If there is anyone with a 2007 ES350 and your ECU has NOT ben reprogrammed will you please perform the following test.

Is the override only supposed to activate when the car is moving above a certain speed? I just had mine done today, and was not able to make the override kick in. First, I drove at 35 mph, then floored the gas pedal while pressing the brake to keep the car from going much faster. The engine stayed at ~5500 rpm the whole time. Later, I parked the car and while in Drive and holding the brake pedal all the way down, I floored the gas pedal, and maintained this for about 20 seconds. Again, the engine speed stayed up around 5500 rpm. I'm wondering if the dealer forgot to update the ECU, even though the work order states they updated it.

Also, is it normal for the engine to intermittently vibrate severely when at WOT while in Drive and the car is held stationary via the brake? Every 2 seconds or so, the car would shake violently, then it'd go away and then it'd recur.

I just got a call from my dealer saying they wanted to do an audit of the recall to make sure everything was done properly. The auditor is going to come by my work tomorrow and do a visual inspection of my vehicle. What a job! Driving a Lexus around to look at other Lexus cars! Where do I apply?!?!?!

And for the "inconvenience" I'll get a $50 AMEX gift card. Sweet!

So the "audit" was to remove a piece of styrofoam from behind the accelerator pedal. A concern came up that the pedal could get stuck on that as well although it appeared it would be very difficult. The styrofoam piece had some velcro on it to keep it in position behind the accelerator pedal.

But who cares? I got my $50 AMEX gift card!

I believe the brake overide only functions above 25mph.
