Default 2007. why the hell did they put in a CASSETTE player

Wasnt that a total WASTE.. in 2007. or maybe even 2006. didnt the designers realise that AUDIO CASSETTE is a DEAD format..

they could have used that space for something else. or lowered the price of the car..

just some rantings about this NEAR perfect car . ie. in VALUE for MONEY.. no car comes close.

Not sure, but maybe the "typical" ES buyer has tapes they want to play?

Isn't the average age of an ES owner supposed to be 65? In that case those stupid engineers should have included an 8 track player as well!

actually some people want to learn/educate when they are driving and most learning devices are cassettes when it comes for car use.
what works well for others may not work for others.
overall your're in good shape if that's only complaint.

While I agree that the cassette died a LONG time ago and the car should not have a stupid cassette player in it, here's a factoid for you. The $495,000 Mercedes SLR still has a standard cassette player in it! The $389,000 Rolls Royce Phantom still has manual spin dial climate control!!! As far as I'm concerned, CD's are also an obsolete 28 YEAR OLD technology, and I hate CD players wasting space in cars just as much a cassette players.

Yes, the older crowd does in many cases find the cassette player useful. On the other hand, I've had younger customers question why anyone would want a multi disc CD changer since all of their music is on their iPod!

While certainly not among the "younger crowd", all my music is on my IPod also. With the USB port it gives you virtually complete integration and, of course, charges the IPod at the same time. The cassette haters will be pleased to know that it was finally killed on the 2010 model. At least they left the ashtray.

My 2007 ES350 does not have a cassette tape, it would have been a waste of space. I remember when I purchased a Camry in 2000, CD was a standard and tape was an option of $500 and put it in. I think I only used it twice in thar 4 yrs that used the car. I am not a "young" person but in music I have moved on and in my ES I have 6 CD with only MP3s .. lots of songs .. CDs too are now/going to be thing of the past. I am surprised 2010 model did not come out with hard-drive, a media player. But I still have all my collection of cassettes, 45s, LPs and few of my Dads old 78s.

Well all Lexus had them then but one by one they are disappearing with the new models.

It appears that only the ML audio systems contain the cassette players for '07 thru '09. The standard Premium systems for these model years did not. My ML equipped F does not have a cassette and my wife's Premium audio system in her ES does not have a cassette. In any event no 2010 ES model has a cassette. I recall puting an underdash aftermarket cassette player in my GTO back in 1973, 37 years ago. Back in the eighties, I had two Nakamachi decks in my stereo system, and considered myself quite good and dubbing tapes from either vinyl or other cassette. I still have one of my Naks, and I'll play a tape at home maybe once a year. Ah, memories.
