Is this a good price on a 2008 ES350?
2008 ES350, 13,000 miles, no Nav, only a few basic options, 1-local owner, clean carfax, Certified from a dealer for $28,000. I don't want to pay more for Nav, UL, etc. so this car is fine for me. Or should I go for a new 2010 base model? What makes the most sense dollars wise? I will keep this car 6 years or more and drive it 140,000 miles.

Depending on those "few options" this may be a good price. I personally also did not care too much for navigation or ML audio. However, Premium Plus package, HID lights and Bluetooth are more or less required to fully enjoy your Lexus. Keep in mind that you may still knock down the price by a few hundred off the sticker, maybe even a thousand if you are a good bargainer.

Ran it through Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book and it appears to be a fair price. Would cost you about $7500 more for a 2010 model. Is it worth it to you is the only question that matters? Good luck.

Good luck in finding one with just the basic pkg for this price. Even the Lexus website shows a starting price of $34800 plus $875 transportation. Brings it up to $35,675 minimum. Add to that any options plus ttt.

After finalizing my deal just last week (montréal, canada), i played the waiting game as suggested here and on dec 1st, i got a call to match my price + 500.00can. I also looked at different dealers and surprisely, the used lexus stock is liquidating quickly.
I think if you play hard ball until the end of the year, they will bite the bait.

Thanks for the ideas. Edmunds has the average "real price" paid for a 2010 base car at $33,900. The CPO 2008 is $28,000 they are saying that is a firm price. But If I can get a 2 year newer car with 0 miles on it, for $6,000 more than a CPO, that is the better deal to me.
Now, does anyone know who is giving the best deals on a new 2010 base 350ES in the tri-state area right now? Any dealer in CT, NY, MA, NJ. Anyone want to share prices paid and buying experience? Or should I start a new thread for that?

Ok, new info. I am still at $28,000 for the 2008 CPO with 13k miles. I am at $33,000 for a brand new 2009 base left over. I am at $34,000 for a brand new 2010 base model. Should I wait awhile for after Christmas sales?

It will also have bluetooth. Based on the length of time you plan to keep it and the amount of miles driven, buying the 09 would make sense if you like the color. You said the 09 and 2010 were both "base" cars. Heated/ventilated seats and HID's are not normally what is considered a base car. If you can get a 2010 for only $1000 more, get it. The lights on the mirrors, safety connect, having choice of color and being on year newer justify that. IMO

Well, I went and looked at the 2008 CPO cars today. One was a mint local car with 13,000 miles but I didn't like the white with tan interior. The 8 or so other 2008 CPO cars were all dealer "loaners" and were a touch on the rough side, with marks, chips and scrapes and a little bit dirty interiors. So the $28,000 didn't look so good. ----------------------The 2009 was brand new in the wrapper at $33,000 but I didn't like the red color or I would be driving it today!----------------------- So that left some 2010's with $37,875 sticker prices offered to me at $34,600. Again I didn't like the colors and they low balled my trade in. I wonder if people really did get brand new $38,000 cars for $33,000 like some have claimed on Edmunds? No one ever says where they got those alleged deals at?

Dealers utilize a service called Garves to value your trade in based on current local dealer auctions prices. It is always lower than Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book values. Just traded in a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had an Edmunds and KBB trade in value of $16,000. One dealer gave me a $14,000 trade in value while the other, who called Jeep dealers in the area, offered $15,000 on the trade in. Working both against each other the best I could on a new Ford Fusion Sport for my daughter, the trade in value was the difference in giving the business to that particular dealer who did their homework. Total deal difference (with the Fusion MSRP between the two the same) was $991. While the dealers utilize the Garves wholesale valuations to their advantage in negotiations, I think it is their crutch not to overpay on a car, no matter how nice or desirable it is.
