how much should I offer to buy the ES 350?
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/lexu...on=1&x=73&y=13
The above link from Edmunds.com shows the "invoice" price that a Lexus dealer is supposedly paying for the 2008 ES 350.
I am hearing that the dealer actually pays a lot less than this price of $29,987 for the base price. This number is important to me because I will use it to negotiate my offer to buy the car.
Some people tell me I should offer $500 above this invoice price. But another person tells me that because the Lexus dealer actually pays a lot lower than this price of $29,987, I should be offering a few thousand dollars BELOW this invoice price.
Does anyone know about how much does the Lexus dealer (in general) actually pay BELOW this "invoice" price? Thanks.
By the way, I live in the Bay Area, California.

Start off low and you can always inch up as the negotiations move forward. I have walked out on a deal, holding to my offer and have had the dealer salesman call for me later in the week to come back in to meet my price.

In CA, you can get easily get a dealer to dip into holdback on a non-UL ES. SoCal is easier than NorCal, but with effort, you can get a NorCal dealer to match SoCal prices. I dunno if they'd give you that whole 3%, but a few hundred isn't unheard of. You can offer $1000 under invoice and see where that takes you. If you request thousands, like $3000, as whoever is telling you, that's a quick way to get shown the door. Be a waste of a dealer's time talking to someone offering that bad a price.

The $29K is on the base car so I went with getting the options I wanted then negotiate the final price. Once you see the features then you need to go do your homework. They didn't deal to much in the NY area. I got all options except the UL package and walked out for $36K. The money is in the options. Good luck.
