Does anyone have the instructions for programming a new Smart Key?

Thanks in advance.

I'll be watching this but it is my understanding that programming requires special equipment that only Lexus dealers have.

If you mean the scan tool, I've been told that it is available online for $40 or so.

No, I think the scan tool you are referring to just reads OBD codes. This is more of a proprietary Lexus tool I believe - a laptop and some software maybe. I'm still watching this thread but I believe the lack of responses means it can't be done.

Proprietary Lexus service equipment is required to perform this operation as detailed in EL001-06 rev. of 3/16/07 which is an eight page procedure. Tinkering with this system may result in lockup of the ID code box and the Smart Key ECU which then must be replaced. This sounds severe, but is a security feature to prevent "hacking" the system.

Bottom line, your going to have to have Lexus do it on your nickel.

Yes, it has to be done by the dealer.. If Lexus uses the same method as Audi/VW, then the dealer's computer MUST connect to Audi/VW manufacture in Germany to obtain a one time code for that specific car.... Even the dealer can not see that code!

In my opinion, I really prefer that method and I willing to pay the dealer some "Extra" money just to feel that my car is secured... Its always better when they manufacture make key copying harder and harder...

My father have a 2007 GMC Yukon... GM wants to their customers to be "satisfied" when the owners want to make a key copy... The instructions are very simple.. Get the blank (with "anti theft" feature) key from your GM dealer, cut it to match your existing key, start your car with the original key, they insert the new key and you're done... What in the hell is that?? That mean, if you have your car to the valet guy, all what he need is 5 min to make a working copy they possibly steal your car!!!

I know Lexus uses the smart key.. But, if copying smart keys are that simple, Lexus will be one of the top stolen cars in the world!
