When we first got the car, many a Honda / Toyota owner thought they could take on the ES350. They were surprised when they were shut down. Did keep up for a few seconds with a SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee but he got much too serious after 80 mph.

Hey, I think we all are "leaning" how to deal with the transmission...or should I say getting "used" to it. I still enjoy the Lexus ES though, as we all do!

I've seen online videos of people doing it in pretty close to 6 flat.

i floored it out of my dealer and it felt pretty fast ! make sure you rev the engine to about 4-5k rpm (the noise is great) then you drop it into D (drive) quickly while the rpm is still high and SLAM on it . its really fast ..

not nagging on anything, but won't the new V6 accord (sedans) keep up with the ES?

I know for a fact the coupe will smoke the ES but comparing apples to apples...

This was during the first week we owned the ES350 back in 10/06. Just remember it was a woman in a Honda. But my Impala SS does the job if the ES350 can't.

Consumer Reports shows 0-60 for the ES @ 6.4 sec and the new Accord V6 sedan @ 7.4 sec. Since it's now a larger car, I think the new Accord gained some weight vs. the previous gen.

Ok, I want to know...how many of us really care about the 0-60 in 6.8sec? Didn't we buy our ES for the quiet and comfort (it is nice though to get up and go when merging into traffic)!

I let it rip here and there =)

Which brings to mind, I asked the dealer if there was a break-in period and he said no. In fact, he discouraged me from using Cruise Control for the first 1000 mi as it keeps the engine too idle!

I like the way it reaches 60 mph quickly and quietly (once the cold engine is warmed up and the knock is tamed).

It popped onto the top of my list without me knowing what the 0-60 was (or even what the horsepower was... I still only know the general amount off the top of my head). I did buy it for the quiet and comfort.

But yeah, now that I own it and have experienced the power and speed, I use it a lot more in traffic. Very nice to have, but I wouldn't have noticed if it were slow cuz I wasn't expecting anything.

I am sure that ES350 is much faster than 6.8. Recently I raced an altima 3.5 with 270+ horsepower - ES is faster off the line, and kept one-two car length on Altima (0-60 6.5). Raced 04 accord (0-60 6.9) and it was not even close - 4 car lengths behind by 90 mph or so. Raced G35x (older one)(6.4), and ES is a bit faster. ES is also faster than MB E350 (0-60 6.3). I am pretty sure that ES is as fast as camry, or 0.1 second slower due to weight. I would estimate around 6.2-6.3 0-60 times

Car & Driver had the ES350 at 6.2, and Consumer Reports was 6.4, so your estimate is pretty close. Not sure what kind of trans those other cars have, but the 6 speed auto helps. Helps the gas mileage too.

A friend of mine told me that he timed the 0-60 with a stop watch (so not very accurate) in about 6.5 sec with a lot of front wheel spin. So he said that may be with a good launch you can get to 6.2 and with summer tire or better you can may be get close to 6.0.

Is this somewhat true?

There are a couple of things to consider. 1. sport mode vs automatic, 242 hps but it weighs 3,500 lbs, tires and octane rating.

best I've done in sport with stock wheel and 93 with spare tire removed is 6.8 so yeah, it's completely in the realm.
