Wow. If anyone has asked why does IS have tight back space, i think this is the answer. If you dont care about RWD, this car is definetly an luxury segment vehicle. It looks premium, and expensive, something that previous ES lacked...

The exterior I tend to agree, but some actually thinks the interior of the current one looks more premium because of more wood trim I personally have grown to like the new interior, the less conventional design on the dash.

Small note: The audio ***** are extremely small... Not a problem, but its way smaller than what my 94 ES had and what my current 01 LS and 06 400h have

man, personally while i agree wood contribute some to the luxury feel, i don't really care about wood. not like it's going to hold your coffee mug and the es is still entry level luxury car imho, the one that goes out for lexus and spread the name. it is, and shouldn't be, as premium as the ls. so if they say by taking out some wood, they aer able to put in more gadgets and features that are actually useful. i am all for it.

I wish everybody would quit bychin' about the wood... So what, it doesn't have as much as before. Times change and less is sometimes better. Personally I think too much wood looks cheesey and overdone. This looks just fine the way it is....at least it's all real and not plastic!

Default And another thing!

Suppose they DIDN'T change the dash too much, then you guys would be bychin' cause' the design was stagnant and not progressing.............

What I really want to know from those who are complaining is how does it impact you personally? My guess is that most people in the Lexus forums in general are driving second hand models. How many of us are considering plunking down $36K for a new ES350!? I bet not many.

How many of us are in the correct age demographic for this car? Probably very few.

i honestly can say that i like the new ES alot and i like the previous generation mainly the 05 and 06 models for the refreshing. although i like this new one, everytime i look at the front, i think of buick, dont know if its because of the bumper and the way the fog lamps look and how it look high from the front, but anyway it reminds me of a buick with a lil' of the new azera from hundayi. not thats a bad thing. but overall nice car, cant wait to see one in black.

the interior, i like but it looks dis-portional. i mean on the cupholder area, theres more space of plastic showing closet to the passenger side while the wood it closet to the driver side. i know it sounds confusing, but just look at it. the shifter looks kinda odd to me

Those are the 2+ elements that have been scrutinized here...aside from the oval, of course (whicih I'm getting used to)

1) make the shifter lower
2) add some wood to the dash, right passenger side
3) add some character to the doors.

You'd think an ultra luxe selection would add some additional features.

But overall I think it is still essentially true to the ES tradition; the last ES was a bit of an overachiever on the wood and interior design element, this car goes back more to the roots on the dash/doors design aspect.

I'm looking at an Avalon brochure and the shifter appears to be the same height as the new ES. These are large cushy cars folks...they aren't meant to have the sport features you're asking for.

Why is this so hard to realize??
