I'm not an engineer, but I would have to think that the push button start will actually be cheaper than using the keys. Sure, it is cool, but I would think from a cost standpoint, it's cheaper for Lexus and Toyota to put in their cars, no?

I'm not an engineer either, but I think that while the push button start itself may not cost much at all, the radio-frequency-based Smart Key and the door handle sensors definitely does cost quite a bit. BMW goes the cheapo route by putting in a so-called push button start that requires inserting the key fob first, and one will have to pay extra for the Comfort Access package to get what Lexus's standard Smart Key has to offer.

Default UL Cars are rare

I went to the dealership today to look at their allocation of cars and choose the car that I want. I wnat the fully loaded UL package that includes Nav, ML, etc. The dealership showed me the allocation of cars for our 18 state area and, of the approximately 770 cars coming in the April shipment, only 35 are fully equipped. The only two coming to our dealership were the dark grey exterior w/ light grey interior or a black exterior w/ cashmere interior. I'm sure both will be beautiful but I'm partial to the cashmere interior and would prefer a lighter color exterior so I don't have to work as hard to keep it looking clean. I may wait for a month or two and see if something pops up that matches my criteria but I REALLY wanted to take delivery of the car next week. If I decide to buy one of the two available, I'll post pictures and let you know how it went. The price was right around $44K before satellite radio, etc.

No, u make a good point, Toyota prices are up as well. I am just happy Lexus does not enter the bargain sub 30k market.

You are probably right. Instead of giving 300k people a year what, 3 keys, you get 2 key fobs instead. Also, instead of getting key scratches in the doors, door handles, dash, you get nothing
Seeing as BMW uses it on the 3 and Jag with the new XK for example, there must be a cost benefit, while it being HELLA cool

yeah it does look good and that wood looks hot against the black plaint, but the navi screen just adds more elegance to the interior, not saying it looks bad without it, but it just looks better with it i think
