Ugghhh....maybe it's because I'm a current ES owner, but I don't really like the new interior at all. The lack of wood a la the New GS makes the interior less luxurious than it could be, and the round curve atop the dash looks simply....ghey... I can only wish it'll grow on me over time.
The exterior on the other hand looks pretty okay though. The front is definitely a big improvement if not quite RL-ish, whlie the rear...eh, I still like the current rear design better. The New ES is also missing the curvy rear window that makes the current ES look so elegant. The high belt line and the small windows will make the occupant feel oppressive. Dunno why so many new cars are following this trend.
All in all I'll reserve my final judgement until I see the car in person but I'm a bit dissapointed so far.

I am sorry but I am not impressed by the new interior either. It looks less luxurious than the 2006. What's Lexus thinking?!! It looks almost cheap to me. I am seeing more plastic and less wood in all the new Lexus cars compared to earlier models...LS, GS, and now ES. Sorry, I am disappointed.

Well, I love the exterior and hope seeing it in person would just intensify that.
As for the RL similarity, I don't know, may be.

thanks for the pics! now i don't have to wait 'till that february car show to see the new ES. was i expecting too much of an "L-finessed ES"?... i think the IS got the best re-design, even more-so than the GS. oh well, i guess i'll wait for the next gen RX, as i WAS contemplating trading utility for sport!

Front reminds me of a RL , not necessarily bad though . . .
The rounded curve on top of the controls is unique, not sure I like it yet, have to see more pics from different angles but no wood trim above the glovebox . . . Overall looks OK but not great, & it's different enough from the new Camry.

Those on the dash of the new LS looks a little narrower than the current one, it probably just a matter of design & flow with the rest of the dash . . .

I think it looks good, in general...
in fact, I like the front a lot more now...the LS 460 and RL resemblance looks quite good, IMO.
The side profile with 'high belt line' and the absence of the ES curve around the C-pillar gives me pause, but I have to see the car with pics from a lower side angle to be sure...
But the front is a nice evolution, and compared with the earlier magazine pic, it flows with the Lexus logo on the grille better.

This site is great!!! I have been in Lexus ES's since 1990 and am thinking if I should get the 2006 or wait for the 2007. Of course the dealers did not have pictures last week so I am glad I waited for you great people to come to the rescue!!! Thanks again.

Compared to the 4ES, whose interior I found absolutely wonderful, I think the 5ES does an ok job although I am disappointed by the absence of wood above the glovebox.
It looks even more streamlined and clean, a bit spartan. The curved top looks weird at first but I think with the appearance of it sweeping down the dash and between the seats, it might look good.
The trend is matched with the 4LS, which has wood trim moving up from the center console up the dash. Both the New LS and ES have a more 'busy' look IMO, but still quite simplified. Now there is the theme of '2 columns' on all LS/ES/GS/IS...where the buttons are lined up on both sides of the NAVI screen...

I don't remember seeing it here before that time. I guess if you posted it before then, I just missed it.

You are vindicated, Bluesman!
Looks like the mag had it right all along.
Although I must confess, that pic has it right except the rear looks bad, sorta like how the 5-series looks good till you get to the rear. I for one am glad that they put the IS-inspired rear on the real ES 350.
Although I wonder if having the LS 460 be the ONLY Lexus with the titles on the upper part of the trunk is good. I thought to match the LS, the ES should have the titles up there, leaving the sporty IS and GS to do the opposite.
