Found: Replacement front lower control arm bushings--without buying new control arms
I had pretty much blown off getting replacement bushings for my front lower control arms, because I had never seen ONLY the bushings for sale for my 1992 ES300. The only way I could find to get the bushings replaced was to buy new or used arm, which would already have new bushings attached.
Daizen makes quality bushings for sale as separate parts (not attached to arms) for the SC 300/400 and possibly others, but not the ES300's.
But last week I was searching eBay, and there they were. The minimum bid was $50, but I didn't want to wait 4+ days for the auction to end, so I ordered them over the phone for $65 an arm (two different size bushings for each arm). Now I see the bushings available again on eBay. The arm/bushing combo runs about $180 elsewhere on the internet for the 1992 ES300, I've seen. So both sides for about $360. But if you buy two sets of just the bushings for $150 (including tax and shipping), press out the old bushings yourself, or have your shop do that, put the new bushings in, then you save about $210. If you get the bushings on eBay, then you may get them for less than I paid. That price difference was enough for me to decide to get the bushings, and thereby eliminate the occasional "clunk" and the somewhat loose steering. These bushings did not seem to be as nice in quality as the Daizen bushings I've seen for the SC300, but the bushings I bought seem like they will be good enough for an eleven year old ES with 234,000 miles
I had these front lower control arm bushings installed today by Todd and Chris at TM Engineering in Carson, CA. Nice work, guys!!! I notice the difference!
