it's 20% (technically it's 17% but i guess it has to fall in one category) it reflects 53% of the light that comes in...
just a note based on what the tint guy told me...new york law states 70% is allowed, which basically means you can't tint your car...but cops only care that your facial features are visible through the tint...obviously this tint isn't gonna show much, so i'm just praying i don't get pulled over...

i kno i live on strong island! 35s are legal and the safe ones. the cops have to be able to see you when your in your car if they pull you over. if they cant see you then u get a ticket. goin under 20 like some people do with 5s are risky. they'll see that tint from a far and ticket you. besides at night you cant see anything out your rear window when your tints are that dark even though appearance wise it looks nice!

If you read my post on the previous page, yes, I was pulled over and ticketed for tinted front side windows, but not front windshield.

I have 20% bronze on the front and back windows and 50% bronze on the windsheild. Tint on front windows is illegal in NJ and I did get a tint ticket once, but I got pulled over for somthing else. The cop gave me the tint ticket so I wouldn't get points. Other than that, I havn't had any problems yet (knock on wood!). Having an FOP sheild helps too though. I don't remember what the tint cost me. The windsheild alone was $100 though. I got that done about a year after the rest of the car was done. Heres an older pic. I don't think the windsheild is tinted in this one... I have to take some new pictures!

Aesthetically speaking, a solid dark tint like 20-30% would look attractive with a black car like yours. However, you should keep in mind of how well you can see through the windows (and the rear windshield) when you're driving in the city, changing lanes on the highway, parking at a lot, etc. This is an important concern for me because I wear corrective lenses when I drive, and to have any kind of tint on my car (besides the green UV-resistant tint) would make driving more difficult.
Also, your state might have tinting laws you need to abide by, but since your profile says you're from Texas, those laws are probably more flexible.

Don't laugh guys, but I mix it up and I comes out perfect. I use black (mirror tint is played) 35% on all four windows and 20% on the back window, this makes it not too light and not too dark. By the way, I like your car el gato.

I got 20% on 4 windows and 5% on the back, In NY for the 4 windows, 35% is legal. But most of my friends get 20% and even 5% and it looks kool, since u got black car, go with it as dark as u can!! real nice!

well, since everyone is sharing what % tint they have, i have 5% all around
BUT, in the city of houston, no HPD officer can pull you over for just tint, its only an addon. the only officer that can pull you over, over here, would be a state trooper, which is rare on my side of town.

Between the two options you gave: light (smoke I assume) vs. Mirror
35% smoke all the way around. 20% is pushing it. Like lexusk8 said, safety is important if this is your daily driver.
Avoid these "new age" or whatever mirror/metallic based tints, on newer cars they can interfere with windshield integrated antennaes and navigation systems.
