Delaminating 2004 ES330 steering wheel
The wood trim on my steering wheel is cracking and peeling off. Is there something I can do beyond getting a new steering wheel?
I love my car but I'm getting splinters.

Ever hear of a window shade and tinting?

Wow, have never seen that happen before.
I'll bet it doesn't have to do with UV rays at first anyway. It was probably severely damaged by someone entering the vehicle, such as someone's body jewelry (a watch, ring, etc) and got worse over time do to wear, elements, and body oils. That is very unfortunate. The best route would be to find a replacement from another vehicle. Otherwise you could apply clear coat to slow its death, or hide it with a steering wheel cover, but the 4ES steering wheel is one of its most aesthetic features and I would hate to see that.

Really, you want to bet it wasn't sun damage? I bet it WAS sun damage. California sun is scorching, I see cars with delaminated paint in Cali, Arizona, Nevada all the time as I travel nationwide and I can see where cars get most damage.

Replacements are easy to find on Ebay. That is 100% sun damage I'd toss a white towel over the wheel if the car has to be parked outside for long periods.

Pole Position
Step 1: NV goggles, a six pack, camp chair and your favorite AR. Sit out one night and get rid of the varmints.
Now you could just put a towel on it.
OR:
Step 1: polish w/headlight restoration kit.
Step 2: treat w/Aerospace 303 periodically.
Or maximize your fun and do ALL of the above.
