1999 ES get sideairbags? Will the seats work in a 1998?
I recently bought a relatives 1998 ES300 to tide-me-over after my search for a clean 02+ went bust.
With 180k miles, the car runs surprisingly well (or unsurprisingly for these old ones?) I've already drained and filled the trans and have enough fluid to do it 2-3 more times. It was smoother after the first.
The front rotors are somewhat warped and the pads are running down so I went ahead and got a deal on Amazon for rotors and pads.
The LCD on the stereo is impossible to read. I stopped by a salvage yard with a friend looking for Honda parts and came across a clean ES (front end damage). I ended up pulling out the stereo and HVAC head unit and got them for $15! (haven't installed yet).
Something else caught my eye, the seats in this salvage car are in much better shape than what's in my 180k car. I asked the guy at the counter how much seats are, he said $45/each if they're in the yard and you pull them yourself. Unfortunately the seats have side air-bags...are they interchangeable with my seats? Or will the airbags go off or do they have different plugs, etc?

The only potential problem might be the connector (for the power functions etc.) but that is probably the same. If they are in great shape then I'd buy em.

They should be compatible as Lexus made side airbags standard across its lineup since 1998, and memory mirrors weren't added until 2000.
Just disconnect the battery and wait a good 15 mins before performing the swap as a precaution to not set off the airbag.
