Default Hose with bolt in the end???

So when I took off the upper air intake / plenum while getting to the rear valve cover I was a little surprised to discover a hose with a bolt in the end and a clamp around the end to tighten the hose around the bolt....

I took some pics but it was getting a little dark so they're not the greatest... if need be I can take another in the morning....

I don't know where the hose is supposed to connect, I couldn't see
that looked like it was missing a hose, I don't imagine it's a of Lexus / Toyota design but I suppose I could be wrong...

If it should be plugged in somewhere I'd prefer that, than a bolt... It's almost as if someone had pulled things apart once before and ended up with a stray hose they forgot to connect and couldn't work out where to connect so they stuck a bolt in it,,,,

I've circled the bolt in the wide shot, and in another put an arrow on the hose as it goes into the block or whatever it's going into... so the arrow is pointing away from the bolt...

Can anyone explain?? Can anyone tell me where it should go or how it should be,,,??

i would look for an unused nipple under your plenum. On that side of the manifold, it should be near the iacv.

I haven't seen anywhere for it to go yet but I've been more focussed on getting the rear valve cover out... Before I put everything back together I'll have a more thorough look as there has to be somewhere for it to go!

Is there any good reason to block a hose off like that??? (other than it was left over after reconnecting all the hoses etc)

Is it likely to be causing any significant negatives in terms of performance, efficiency etc??

If that goes to the throttle body (seems likely) then yes not having it hooked up with cause the engine to run worse when cold it is there for a reason.

I don't think it's long enough to go to the throttle body (assuming it's original length)....

I think I spotted a stray nipple on the underside of the plenum / upper intake (as previous poster suggested), I just don't recall if I pulled a hose off it or not...

I'm nervous about hooking it up to the wrong place, but I guess it shouldn't be an issue as there shouldn't be anywhere to hook it up other than where it belongs!

Be careful, you don't want to hook a coolant hose to an intake port. But when you put the plenum back on it will probably become obvious where that hose goes.

check under the throttle body. I think that's the coolant return line

here's a couple of pics showing where the mystery hose splits in 2 directions (maybe into each cylinder bank???) and goes into the engine around where the plenum / upper intake bolt onto the block....` I've marked the hose with a red line......

On the 2001 there is a plastic t-connector that is like a little box. One hose comes out of each cylinder head then instead of going into a metal t- connection like yours it goes into a platic box t-connector. That hoes that has a bolt would go into the iacv. The IACV on a 2001 has two tubes on it. One is for coolent the other for air. The pic is of the connector.

I'll do a search for the number assigned to the hose and see if I can find something...

The picture sort of makes it look like it's a hose with a bolt in the end of it!

If I'm understanding correctly from the diagrams that come up with the google search "17345D Toyota 3VZ-FE" it seems to be "Air hose No. 5"... I'm still not sure where it goes as the diagrams don't seem to go that far but I think that could be considered progress...

I found this in a workshop manual for 1992 Camry with 3VZ-FE....

Inspect Air Assist System - Start and warns up the engine.
- Disconnect the No.5 air hose from the ISC valve and plug the hose end with your finger.
- Check that vacuum pressure acts against your finger.

Reference vacuum: 27 kPa (200 mmHg, 7.9 in.Hg) or more - If no vacuum exists, check whether the air hose, pipe is clogged.

So if that is the right hose it would seem that goes into the ISC valve (Idle Speed Control) I will have a look and see if I can find it, tho I would have thought I'd have seen a hose missing from there...
