1999 es300 transmission

engine idles rough at times. engine will shut off at times. trans wont shift to o/d.

based on the information you provided, I think the tyres are the problem.

Check for pending or actual errors with an OBD II reader. Sounds to me like you have a problem other than the transmission. Is the CEL on? Any other error lights on?

I'm going to take a wild stab at it and say its your engine temperature sensor malfunctioning. The engine is trying to over compensate to put more fuel and air into a warm engine causing rough idling and also preventing the transmission from shifting into O/D since the engine is cold.
