Default replacement used motor options on a 94 es300

just helped my son buy a 1994 es300 with 288,000km (177000 miles)

now i think i need a motor. can i fit a camry/sienna imz-fe or do i have to find an es300 motor?

we bought it 250 miles away. it did not make it home. just over the crest of a long mountain pass the red oil pressure light went on and the engine stalled out and would not crank. after a tow ride to the next town and a trip back with a trailer today i took the ac/alt belt off and the engine still does not crank and will not turn at all with a long wrench. it has plenty of oil.

my other question is whether i also have to worry about the transaxle. when it stalled out i heard a brief unpleasant noise like a baseball card in bike spokes before i shifted to neutral.

By no means am I an expert in this field, but after quite a bit of searching, I came to a conclusion. (others are welcome to join in with more expertise). It seems that the other 1mz-fe engines in the Camry, Solara, RX300, Sienna, all have small things that are different about them: intake, EGR, different ECU's and other electronics. From what I've heard, it is much easier to find a donor car (for you it would be a 94-96 ES) for an engine and just do a direct swap.

I can't imagine that an 1mz ES engine is much more expensive than 1mz from another Toyota. I also found this old thread which discussed the same kind of swap: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...otor-swap.html

Hopefully this helps you out a little bit. Like I said, I was pretty much reading all this stuff myself so I can't tell you that what I found was 100% correct. I thought maybe I could point you in the right direction.
