So, I've got a 1999 Toyota Windom 3.0G (ES300) and it's got one of those factory Toyota Double DIN GPS/TV/Radio units. Pretty much identical to the one in this picture (I can take a picture of the exact one in my car if needed, but it's identical to this) :


However, I live in NZ and having a radio that only goes up to 90FM is a bit of a pain in the ***, so I'd like to change the head unit over to one that runs on the standard 20Mhz FM band, not the weird 14Mhz Japanese one. I've looked online to try and find an answer but I'm getting mixed results. Some forums say just a harness, and others say that aftermarket headunits are incompatible with the factory amp. So, any of you able to enlighten me? I'm really confused about this, the last thing I want to do is a buy a headunit and then find out that I have to change out the whole sound system in order to make it work.

I'm very happy with the sound quality from the factory system, it's one of the best factory stereos I've listened to in a car. I'd like to keep the factory speakers and amps, and just change over the head unit, nothing else. Plus, I only have the money for a head unit and maybe a few connectors and harnesses and stuff, not enough for a new amp and/or speakers.


P.S. Oh and the unit's in Japanese, which is also annoying.
