Whatever you want it to. A lot of people think they know, but the truth is it's all made up.

Pulled from the Lexus ES wiki

The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, "Elegant Sedan".

So we're all pretty much agreeing that ES stands for "Executive Sedan"

The "S" in Lexus cars stands for sedan.
An "X" means its an SUV.
And "C" means coupe.

Personally, I haven't seen any actual proof, but pretty much everyone I've asked agrees on the same names. I don't think they could all be wrong, plus logically the names do make sense.

The source of that list is people that work at a Lexus dealer, I've seen it repeated several times by people that work for Lexus.
