Default Weird Chirping?

I'm finally in a Lexus - the car of my dreams! They're so nice I still can't believe it's in my driveway. I purchased a 2006 ES330 with 90,500 miles on it. It runs great and I did manage to also grab the extended warranty that covers most everything. I had a couple questions for some of the true Lexus brains out here! If I may....

I'm hearing what almost sounds like a cricket coming from below and behind the dash on the driver side. I've Vaselined all the rubber bumpers on all the doors and adjusted the hood ones as well. I noticed a ton of relays down there so I'm not sure whe there they're the problem. Either way it's not too big a deal. Knowing would be cool, though. And for what it's worth, it does NOT seem to be related to bumps. And if in in park, stopped, the noise goes away. It's strange to say the least!

And every time I put the car into drive, I get this strange clunk and clicking noise. It doesn't happen once I'm in motion but anytime I go from D to R or vice versa I hear it. Is that a big deal?

I'm trying to not be OCD but I've got 5 years worth of payments to make, here, so I'd rather nip it before something fails, you know?

This forum looks great and it's good to see so many Lexus owners out here that are willing to share their experiences!

Welcome to the beautiful world of Lexus! That's a great car the ES330. I have an ES300 with 225k miles. It runs like a dream still.

Can you be more specific about the location of the chirping sound and when it occurs?

Re transmission try a couple of drains and refill of the fluid and add a bottle of that transmission fix from Gunk brands. It worked to quiet and smooth out mine. Do so at your own risk however.

Welcome to Club Lexus!

As far as the transmission clunking goes, I would check the engine and transmission mounts - if you have an extended warranty then hopefully it'll be covered, but even if it isn't it shouldn't be too expensive of a fix. I definitely wouldn't add any additives to the trans, not on such a new car with relatively low mileage.

Does the clunk sound like this when going from D to R to D?

If so, it could be the engine mount.

Thanks for the replies. It's definitely an interior noise and it sounds like a cricket. The transmission noise only happens when the idle is high after a cold start so I'm going to accept that it's how it is. I checked for a rocking when going from R to D and vice versa and there's not nearly that kind of movement, thankfully. The dealer did the upper motor mount but I'm not sure of the back mount or any trans mounts or shocks that were done. The dealer I went do (a Lexus dealer) didn't even have clips in the driver-side floor mats. That's how well they pay attention to detail so if it wasn't really bad, I doubt they replaced it!

Either way, thanks guys for your replies. I'm just going to drive it and enjoy it. I just put in a double DIN Alpine stereo and I'm in a dream when driving this thing now!

Great site. Great forum. Thanks again for the replies!

Hi!
I have a question about my chirping too, but don't know how to start a new thread/post? How do I do that?
