Default Golf ***** in the trunk

So I have the common sound coming from the trunk area. Here's what I've done so far:

1) Removed the bucket of golf ***** from the trunk. Noise still there.

2) Replaced rear sway bar bushings with aftermarket bushings. Noise is still there.

I'm wondering what the next step is? Could it be still there because the bushings are aftermarket? Should I just go to the Toyota dealer to get OEM?

Did you look in your spare tire well under the trunk to see if golf ***** are rolling around in there? Pull out the spare?

Yep, the spare isn't loose, even took it out for a quick drive to make sure.

Also check for a rattling exhaust.

Yes. They can get noisy, especially aftermarket KYB mounts.

+1. in my case it was the mounts and the sway bar bushings together making the noise. Bounce the car up and down and listen for a clunk or clicking noise coming from just behind the rear seats.
