Default Repair or ...

My 2001 es300 needs a new transmission and power steering pump. The tranny itself will be 3800...not sure what to do. The cars blue book value is not much more than repairs. I have only had the car for 18 k miles and it has 151k miles.
I have 5 k in my car fund...but once it's gone it's gone.

Power steering pump is something bolt-on, i mean, a decent backyard mechanic can do that.
Transmission? There must be a rebuilt option or a pull that's compatible.

Just now your Lexus is passing it's mid-life. You can drop what $$ you have now and have it run another 100k miles (which will outlast many brand new cars today) or you can let it die and sell it to someone else willing to revive it.

I say shop around for a used or rebuilt transmission.
The 99-01's transmissions were quite failure prone.

Or you could buy a wrecked 3ES and swap over the guts.
