Default Emergency brake..

Don't laugh to much but I was on the phone while getting gas. I took off and wasn't really paying attention. Ended up driving about a mile on the highway with the emergency brake on. Does it use the rear brakes? How much damage did I do?

You've probably burned through the shoes inside the rear rotors. They are separate from the pads.

Here's the breakdown:

You can usually adjust the shoes too. There's a gear at the bottom of set that you can usually crank to get a little more life out of the shoes, and subsequently, the emergency brake. Once you take the hat (rotor) off, you'll know whether you have room to adjust, or whether you need to replace the shoes.

Honestly, I think you can just adjust them. A mile or two with the brake on is nothing - especially if you didn't even notice the brake is on. I think you had very little compression, so the brakes needed adjusting anyway.

Keep us posted!
