Default LED OEM License plate lights

I posted this in the lighting section with no replies

Where can I purchase license plate bulbs that are the same as the led bulbs on the newer Lexus cars? Does anyone else use these for their older ES models?? They seem to be a perfect color and not to bright

Why don't you just search amazon/eBay for the color led you want and just ask the seller if its compatible with your vehicle. Or ex. Search ebay : 1999 es300 white led license plate
They usually use something like a 6000k white led

I bought the following License plate LEDs for my 2001 ES300. Yours should be identical to what you're looking for.

I bought them 4 years ago and they are the perfect new models Lexus LED License plate color match. Easy straight forward install.

All LEDs are polarity sensitive, so if you install them and they don't work, just reverse them. No damage will be done.

Search the Internet for this specific model Number:

Model: 16-SMD-W (T10 or 194)

If you have an iPad, iPhone, or an Android Device, download the eBay Motors application. You can put in your year, make, and model of vehicle and it will substantially help with filtering out incompatible parts.

Hey thanks PFB. How do you know those are same as the newer Lexus license plate bulbs? Do all Lexus models that use LED license plate bulbs use the same ones? GS is the same as LS, etc?

Some pics of yours would be nice

I didn't mean to say that the bulb is the identical one that Lexus uses, (Although it migh be). What I meant to say is that it's the identical color, and brightness that I see on newer Lexus cars, when they are in front of me at night.

No difference at all.

PFB did you ever consider going to the dealership and getting a newer ES model lights? I wonder if they would fit in old models

Its funny you should mention that. At the time (4 years ago) I didn't think about that, so I just bought them of the Internet somewhere.

However, as I was replying to your thread, it occurred to me that maybe I should Have suggested to you that its worth while to get them from the dealer, (Assuming they're the same fit as they are for our 3rd generation ES)

4 years ago, I paid about $20 on the Internet for both, now they should be much cheaper.

Actually this reminds me I ordered a sun windshield cover a few weeks ago and still haven't gotten a call back haha

I would call the dealership today and ask about the lights but have no signal on my job site

I had some VLEDS bulbs for about 4 years and they barely burned out. Just bought new ones for $16 from VLEDS. Brightest bulbs on the market. Here's the direct link.

This is the closest match to OEM, and I've tried ~10 different styles of bulbs over the years... BOTH links are current, from the seller I've bought way back. I still have some of his bulbs running 5yrs later in other family cars!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-168-194-W5W-5-Power-LED-Warm-White-Wedge-Bulbs-/191369749201?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c8e86a2d1
In this [dusk] picture you can see the closeness to the new Lexus "dimness", the LED's they use are not the brightest on the market, but a clean look which is all I was ever after; at night it was visible and WHITE like the new cars.

If you want a VERY close second, I ran this one for years myself before changing it up.

Now you have to decide, get the 5smd which is the brighter of the two, making your tags more noticeable, or the slightly [barely] dimmer ones.

I actually used Vleds a few years ago and felt they were way to bright. Clean LED lighting but I don't like my plate and rear bumper shining that much.

01 do you happen to have pics of the two at night? Thanks man that's cool that you tried so many and are helping us did you say the first pic is actually closer to OEM than second? Also, did you see about just getting OEM bulbs from the dealership?

Those are the only pics I have unfortunately. And the car is long gone now...

They're not "bulbs" they new lexus lamps are an entire housing. You cannot separate the two....

The OEM ones would perhaps fit with some epoxy, the plug seems the same, but the housing is MUCH bigger. As in the "new" housing will not sit flush like the [current] OEM ones do... I've looked into it.

My suggestion would be buy both of those styles that I posted, and simply choose which you like. It's chump change......
