3es Steering got rough, 2 days later, Gone.
Almost a month ago, I observed the steering to become significantly difficult. It would be smooth from about 12 to 10 o'clock, then rough from 10 to 8' oclock, then smooth again. It always follows this pattern, but at times it was overall less or more intense.
Two days later, I brought it in. guy said I need a new steering column/rack and it would be 450. felt very skeptical, and i didn't have the cash on me anyhow. they've been honest from day one. when i drove it off the lot, it was still rough, but seemed to slowly die down. ever since, it has not happened again.
are they wrong? could it have been a power steering leak/pump problem? or is it the column/rack worn, or the joint, due to the pattern of friction?
