Default 90k service early?

I realize this has been posted before but I have to ask:

I am purchasing an '04 ES 330 with 65,000 miles on it. The Lexus dealership selling it to me says the shop inspection dictated it will get new brakes, rotors, etc. as well as oil and filter changes. I'm going to insist they tell me about the water pump and timing belt condition before finalizing the sale. The car is currently in the shop getting the mechanical and cosmetic work typically done before putting the car out for sale. I got it right after they got it on trade.

Should I trust the dealer inspection or assume they avoided the cost of the 90k service? At its age does it likely need a water pump and timing belt?

Thanks.

I would rather be safe than sorry and at 10 years old, the belt and water pump will be showing their age. I believe it's a recommended 6 years/90,000 mi interval for the timing belt. Just because it hasn't reached 90k yet doesn't mean the belt isn't worn, that was a suggestion for those that drive the car more than the one you're buying was driven. I would say have both replaced to avoid any further issues down the road.

it wouldn't hurt, but many have [and will] argue its unnecessary if all is well.

There's LS guys that have over 200k mi on an original timing belt & pump with no issues.

Then again, you can be like my buddy and have a belt snap on you 10k after the called for interval [turbo vw, expensive mistake]

Make sure at least the belt was replaced and you have documentation stating so as a condition of the sale.

A visual inspection means nothing for a timing belt.

I would tell them that the 90k service should be part of the sale and see docs proving it. Never a bad idea to have it done.
