Default 4es exhaust leak

Need some insight from the 4es folks... 2005 Es330 141k

I have an exhaust leak coming from the flex pipe (the one attached to the catalytic converter). I know this is only one unit, however, id like to avoid buying a new cat if I dont have to.

Has anyone ever replaced JUST the flex pipe and not the whole unit? If so, what brand and where did you get your replacement?

I've done exactly that.

Thanks for the link, man. Very informative...

i'm suprised there are no "direct bolt-on-weld" aftermarket flex pipes.

i'll probably end up removing the whole unit from the car to weld on the new flex pipe.
Hopefully it will make welding in the tight spots much easier.

oh and another question;

would you know the inlet and outlet diameter of the new flex pipe?

I finally had a chance to get my ES up in the air today and found out my exhaust leak was NOT coming from the flex pipe...

It was coming from the exhaust hanger between the flex pipe and cat...

Me being a penny pincher, i've decided to hillbilly-style my exhaust pipe until I can
afford a new unit.

Cut the bracket off:

Applied exhaust tape;

Added a 2" pipe coulper and pipe hanger.

Now, shes quieter than ever!

This is by means not a permanent fix and very un-lexus like... I know, I know...
This is a temporary fix until I have the $$$ for a new unit.

You probably could have had the old hanger just welded to stop the leak...lol

That was a consideration also, or just weld on a new portion of pipe. But since my flex pipe is also on its way out soon, I didnt want to put too much labor ($$$) into something that will have to be replaced soon regardless.
A $10 dollar fix definitely justifices an $80+ weld job.

Its very crude looking, but hey... no one will see under the car lol

I think the area around the hanger was leaking on mine too. The shop guy did a quick weld over the crack to patch it when he welded on my new flex pipe.
