1999 Radio LCD bad - options?
So my radio LCD is virtually gone, what options do I have to get this working again? I have seen the thread about replacing the LCD but I can no longer find the part. There are mulitple head units on the bay but most are parts only or reconditioned. There are some that say for 2000-01, will these fit my 99? Would a nak unit work with my standard one?

I got mine from Pioneer some time ago, and now it shows "Out of Stock", but maybe if you contact Pioneer they can give you an ETA. (Or, maybe the part is gone forever ...) Walt

$119 is tough to swallow for a 15 year old car that I'm selling within the next couple months. Any cheaper ideas? I'm ok with buying a whole unit off the bay but it seems only the 2000-01 units are on there working. Will they fit?

I resisted spending the $$ for more than a year, because it was too much to spend on such a thing. That said, I finally couldn't take the lack of a readable display any longer and went for it.
I then wondered why I didn't do it in the first place - It was so nice to have it working again! I figured I'd spent that much in Atlantic City in less than half an hour, and gotten nothing !
Now, if I was selling the car in a couple of months, I wouldn't have bothered with it at all ....

You can always get a cheap used radio and swap the display over. I can't guarantee that it will be flawless, but at least it might fix the lack of text on the screen.
You can always follow the guide in my signature and resolder the back lights for the display, if they don't work.

Back in '09 when I bought my '97 ES, the LCD was completely blacked out, so I bought a new one for $120 from Pioneer. Within a year, the new one started to lose some of the digits and the radio station numbers looked like heirgoglyphics. I'm thoroughly convinced these LCD's have a flaw. My new 2000 ES has a perfect LCD. I'm not sure if the prior owner replaced it already, or something changed on the '00-'01 models...
