Yes I'm positive oil is slowly dripping from the filter....... I'm not sure if that's the cause of the random / intermittent smoking coming from under the bonnet but I'd not be surprised if the 2 are related...

Yeah I've been questioning myself as to if I could have left the old seal on the motor... I just can't recall if it was on the filter I removed or not...
