Default need thermostat advise, 05 ES

05 ES330 needs stat, after 10 min. only up to the 4 o'clock position. called shop in town and they said 120-150$. "have to replace antifreeze also" times I've looked, it looks like you have to pick the housing up and the stat would be below, beneath the fill cap. well, has anyone done this job, and if so, is it easy?

I don't know on the es, but i replaced one on a civic and it was fairly easy. The thing is, for just $150 bucks, I'd jsut have the shop do it. You'd probably only save like $80 doing it yourself

I did the thermostat on my Sienna with the 1MZ-FE engine, same thermostat location as the 3MZ-FE found in your ES330.

The thermostat is located by the air box. It's not the easiest thermostat replacement but it isn't impossible. Will take about an hour and a half from start to finish. The main time consuming part is getting access to the bolts that hold the thermostat housing (well at least that was the hardest part for me on the Sienna, which by the looks of it has more room in that area than the ES).

Are you sure it needs a thermostat though?

I have a 97 ES300. The thermostat is about $30 itself. Takes me 30 mins from start to finish.

The air box assembly has to be removed, as well as the upper radiator hose connecting to the thermostat housing.

Three(3) stud nuts hold the housing to the to the block, which are a pain to get to. Socket extentions are your friend here. When installing, make sure to torque the nuts evenly. 5.75ft lbs , I believe.

Check out youtube for tutorials.
