The ES may be a little smoother, the GS is a sportier car...but there is no doubt that a 2004 GS is a superior car to a 2001 ES. For one its three years newer, and the GS is a much more substantial car overall than the ES as you would expect given that it was a much more expensive car new.

IMHO the only reason to choose this ES over this GS is price or condition. Now if you're comparing a 2004 ES to a 2004 GS there are perhaps other considerations...

BOUGHT and LOVE------ 2001 ES300 Black on Black last April. Smooooooth. Fast. I guess I need to put air in my tires for better gas mileage. I'm ignorant but learning. First thing I did (after washing and waxing it a few times) was replace the Timing Belt and as they were in there anyway....the water pump too. I learned to do that from reading posts here. I have gotten so much great information at this site but now realize how little I know. This is a fun project. Somebody here has a sig line about maintenance before any of the cosmetic stuff. I apologize for not remembering who or exactly how it goes but that rings true. I'm not interested in tiny tires or huge tires or being low to the ground or LED lights, (yet?) just a well taken care of classic Lexus. I understand it's the same as a Camry but for my first major trip to a mechanic I chose the dealership (and a loaner...a GS ) for the security of knowing all was well, if that makes any sense. They gave me a "To Do" list. A long list. I'm trying to learn more here first before any more appointments.
Sorry to be in the wrong forum for an intro, (hello, everyone!) but that Black on Black 2000 Lexus caught my attention. I'd miss it too.
