Default 96 es300 starts and dies

Have this issue with ES300. It's been flickering check engine light and today would start and died within 10 seconds, now it just starts and dies within 5-10 seconds. I tried pulling codes and it didn't give me any.

What is weird is when I connect my scanner it wouldn't read any codes and didn't connect to ECU.

No check engine light and the inability to connect with a scanner means the ECU is not powering on/not functioning properly.

Check for loose/corroded body and engine ground connections. Have you done any work to the car recently? Any major events that might have changed something?

Here is a great example from Scanner Danner. Watch the whole thing.

Actually there is CEL on when car is running for short 5-10 seconds. I still can not pull codes due to scanner not being able to connect to ECM.
Today I;ve pulled out ECM and inspected it, terminals are clean, took it apart and no burnt smell or obvious burnt parts.

Maybe it's your code reader.

You really should try another code reader first, before tearing your car apart, or bring it to Autozone and have them try to read the codes free of charge.

Hard to do that as the car is not running.

Did you watch the video? The car had a flickering CEL and it ran very poorly, just like yours.

You should still be able to connect just with the ignition on. And probably retrieve stored codes as well. The car need not be running for that.

That's why I suggested to try a different code reader.

We had a similar issue last week - the throttle body was dirty... get a large can of carb cleaner, disconnect the two hoses running from the air cleaner to the throttle body, spray away while actuating the two plates... give it a few minutes, spray some more.

15 minutes later it started rough, then smoothed out.

Ours also didn't show any codes.
