Default 96 es300 Grinding while accelerating

Hello all,
I am hoping to get some opinions on what this noise could be related to.
Recently I replaced wheel bearings on one side (driver) then month later did the right side, but by the time I got to them, the car was making a "grinding" noise. Which I thought was related to the wheel bearings. Now that the other side is done, I still hear the grinding. The best way to describe it ; is, the grinding you hear when you apply worn out brake pads to a worn out rotor... But Im not stepping on the brake. Is it possible the rotor can be making this noise for another cause? The pads dont seem too bad, but maybe because they were cheap they could be sticking to the rotor? That almost sounds silly but I definitely need to address this, driving little children around. Any advice or opinion or experience would be greatly appreciated....

Press the brakes lightly while you accelerate. Does the grinding noise change, or go away?

Next, while you accelerate, pull the handbrake. Any difference in sound?

Next, does it make a difference if you make either a left or right turn while accelerating?

Lastly, is the grinding noise there at any other time, or only while accelerating?

Obviously, make sure there is no traffic behind or around you while you do the above.

Phil

Thank you I will try that today. I can answer that the grinding sound is only there while accelerating. My dad test drove it and he said that is has to be wheel bearings. And since they are not even a month old that they could be faulty!?! It just does not sound right to me. But I will try these things and reply back with results.

Ok, took the tire off and noticed this piece in the picture where the screw driver is, was bent. it is like some kind of shield that the axle goes into, i wanted to see what direction this piece should go so it wont make this grinding sound anymore I looked on the other side of the car to see and that piece was gone entirely. My question is what is this piece called? And how relevant is it ? Can I take it off since the other side is missing? What is its purpose? The guy who took my tire off said it might of got bent because the abs sensor broke and must of hit it. Not too sure how it all relates.

That backing plate looks close to the rotor near the bottom sometimes they get bent forward during service. Make sure its not touching with the wheel mounted and lowered back in the ground . That would cause a grinding noise for sure..

Thank you. When you say "backing plate" are you referring to the rotor shield? Or the piece where the screw driver is at? So far this small piece is the only thing I found that was damaged or bent. But I will look at the shield as well. If that is what it is called.
