Smile hi to all

hi i am new to this forum. my buddy just bought a used lexus. i dont know the model. the only thing i know about it is it is a 1996 lexus ES500. i want to know if there is any trouble codes. so how do i retrieve them. do i need a code reader ??? what can i do .let me know if u need more information

Tell your buddy to make sure the oil in that car gets changed regularly. The older 3.0L V6 engines were not forgiving of long oil change intervals, and can sludge/gel.

An OBD II code reader is a great tool to have. Maybe you can get your buddy to buy it for you. The OBD II connection/port is under the dash. Other people on the forum here have posted that you can go to an auto parts store and they will read the codes for you (for free) so you don't have to buy the code reader.
