anybody using a aftermarket caliper?

just wondering if anyone is using a new caliper off rockauto or something, over a toyota one, or would it be better if i get one from the yard and rebuild it?

I am. I bought the Raybestos single piston ones that matched the stock sizes. From my understanding, all of these calipers were made by Toyota and they got rebuilt by the aftermarket. They work well on my car, the only issue I have is surface rust. Make sure you paint them yourself, as soon as you get them. I waited to paint mine after the rust has started and it proved to be a huge mess.

they're all toyota, just the components are rebuilt by whoever in china and sent back... this is why components like calipers/alternators/etc have a 'core' fee attached to them since they take back the old ones and are re-sent to the vendor to be rebuilt and re-sold again.

In short, yes, I have 3 aftermarket calipers on my car... and one original left.

thanks sounds good, well my mom's front calipers are the cause of her brakes squeeking i think :/

and the rust issue seems the same with aftermarket axles, some paint should fix them

I did not realize how rusted all 4 of my calipers were when I bought my used ES, and I am debating to replace all 4. I noticed the OEM calipers are about $240 each, are the Raybestos more affordable? I'm still planning on using OEM discs and pads.

If it's just surface rust, I would leave them alone. The reason I had to replace mine was because the original ones seized up. Raybestos were about $70 each. Again, paint them as soon as you get them.
