coolant reservoir bubbling over

The cooling fan control valve (solenoid) is a cylinder screwed into the top of the power steering pump. It has a 'pigtail' of wires coming out to a connector as shown in the bottom illustration. Do not know if you would really need the SST (Special Service Tool) or not but looks to be a not-so-easy job getting to it if you should have the need.

There was no resistance from the cooling fan ecu on terminals 2 and 3. So I lifted the car, found the wiring to the power steering pump and noticed it was disconnected. After connecting the wires the resistance to the power steering control valve was 8.3 ohms. I jumped terminals e1 and op1 and the fan kicked on full speed. I believe it is fixed, but i need to test.

Overheating during slow driving and idling on ES models with the hydraulic cooling fan has been reported numerous times on this forum. A common thread seems to be that the wiring harness mentioned in this thread was left unconnected at some point. This probably occurrs when engine or power steering work is done and the person doing the work simply forgets to reconnect the harness. The cooling fan system is so unique that a lot of trained mechanics may not realize the importance of a proper connection of this harness.
It is rewarding to see a new poster describe his problem, accept the subsequent posters' recommendations, and solve the problem. It is VERY rewarding to see the original poster respond after he does the repair. So often, we don't hear any more and end up not knowing if and how the problem was resolved.

Glad to see this issue fixed and how simple it turned out to be. Good job on ******* this problem! Others will benefit. As a side note, if you get an 'open' (hi-z) reading on the solenoid (pins 2-3) AND an open reading on the temp. sensor (9-10) then you can be fairly certain that the power steering connector is off. It is very unlikely that both readings would be open.

So i drove the car up to manitou springs today, which is very mountainous and about a 30 min drive from where i live. This should have taxed it to the point of bubbling in the past. I noticed no problems today and even drove home with the a/c on the way back with no problems. If i dont post back, then the problem is solved.
