Default change your own oil? remove old gaskets!!!

the cardboard oil plug gaskets can pile up and cause problems with near stripping of hole in oil pan. If you change your oil like I do in the driveway, be sure to get rid of the old gaskets! In my defense, I did try once to do this with a screwdriver, and was impressed with how much the gasket can stick to the oil pan. I just had my 05 ES330 on a lift and tried to tighten the oilplug over several gaskets. I nearly stripped the oil pan hole, but was able to "tap" it and plan to get new oil plug for the next time. the tapping procedure was interesting: my mechanic cut 5-6 slots in the end of the oil plug with a dremel tool, and we got a good seal and fixed the threads.

Ummm.... how did you not realize that you were only supposed to have one gasket? So you kept adding more drain plug gaskets until you couldn't tighten the bolt anymore, and finally stripped the threads? I thought this was common sense. You either reuse the old gasket (in a pinch) or replace it with a new one. You don't add more gaskets...

WTF - Where are you getting cardboard gaskets?

I replace mine every 3 oil changes and i normally get them from the lexus dealer for free. Every time i go in i asked for a gasket start to hand over some cash and they say dont worry about it.

The perils of working in the driveway. I did try to remove old gasket once with screwdriver, but it did not budge. on a lift, it was very evident. I am going to replace oil plug...

I rarely have to lift up my car to do oil change. The gasket is usually stuck on the oil pan. To remove it, I just have to use my fingers...

I have new oil plug and they sent a gasket with it. it is not plastic nor metal. looks kinda like cardboard to me, maybe pressed down hard with some glue or something........
