I'm trying to do my TB and now I am at the point of removing the bolt. Tried Impact gun, starter blip but the socket kept coming out. I don't have the special tool to hold the pulley in place so I can remove the bolt. Any ideas??

The starter blip always work for me.

put a breaker bar on that bolt and crank the motor for a few seconds

i suggest you but the tool or make one. remember your done you need torque the bolt back on.

These crank bolts can be on extremely tight, a holder tool won't do anything in some cases.

A couple of things you can try. Use the starter blip method, but have the breaker bar sit a few inches up from a concrete surface so when you hit the starter, the bar will rotate up to speed before it stops suddenly against the concrete. If that doesn't work, another way is to remove the starter and wedge something in between the bell housing and the flex plate teeth. I have an old leaf spring and happens to fit perfectly in there, I then put a cheater pipe on my breaker bar and the bolt comes off every time.

If you still can't get anywhere, you could always take it to a shop where they can break the bolt loose with an impact gun. Whatever you do, use a quality undamaged 6 point socket. If you round off the bolt, removing it will be extremely difficult.

A "few" seconds is way too long. Just a fraction of one second is enough. Turn the key on/off as fast as you can. Make sure there is no play in your restraining wrench.

Thanks for the replies. I did tried the starter blip technique but the darn socket kept coming off the bolt and damaging the bolt. I couldn't find any tools to do it so I torch the bolt to get it hot, make my own tool and got that sucker out. That wasted a few good hours of my day doing the TB change. She's back together now and running normal. I did check to make sure it's at TDC before and after 2 full cycles/turns.
