Default 93 ES300 3VZ-FE O2 Sensor question...

Hello. I am in the process of completely rebuilding the 3VZ-FE engine from my 93 ES300. I am replacing almost every part that can be replaced. I will be starting a build thread soon to help out anyone that decides to rebuild their 3VZ-FE engine in the future. I just got an Iphone 5 so I have been taking lots of pictures of the rebuild so I should be doing something more with them anyway.

My question is about the replacement O2 sensors that are available.

I have been searching on Ebay and I am getting two different part #'s. Denso 234-1053 is a "OE Style Oxygen Sensor" and Denso 234-1057 is a "Universal Oxygen Sensor".

Which of these Denso O2 sensors should I be using?

What is different about them?

I am thinking I should just get the OE style sensor but I would like some second opinions. I probably don't even need to replace my existing O2 sensors but almost everything else on this engine will be new so I should just spend the extra $60 and get new ones for the peace of mind.

Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

If it was me I would buy the original part from Toyota, it doesn't cost much more. Whatever you do, avoid the "universal" style sensors, they are like buying generic at the grocery store. Might be as good as the original, but most often not.

I have personally used one of the universal style O2 sensors, the difference in performance (if any) is negligible, as for longevity I can not speak, haven't had it long enough yet.

I can with confidence say you won't very much enjoy the install of the rear sensor if you do go with the universal style as the big difference is that it does not come with an OE style electrical coupling. You will be forced to solder/twist/butt/bullet/tape/wire nut/glue/hope&dream them together. Whichever is your preferred method.
I went with the Univ. due to the cheaper price and the fact that I had a spare pigtail laying about from my motor swap. I'm also not afraid of a wire splice or two in my vehicle, and some people are pretty picky about that kind of thing.

I don't see how the inside can be very much different, it is just a single signal sensor. Unless they're totally cheaping out, the manufact, process shouldn't be much different; probably happens in the same plant.

The install of the O2 sensors is not a problem at all. I have the entire engine out of the car and completely disassembled. I am in the process of getting all the parts I need before I begin to re-assemble the engine.

Lexus2000, do you know who manufactures the OEM O2 sensors?

I am pretty sure I am going to use the OEM style Denso sensors. They are only $30 each. They can't be too much of a lower quality than the OEM. I am almost certain if I go to a dealer for the OEM sensors they will probably cost twice that. I am going to shop around some of the different Toyota dealers recommended in the forums and see what prices they list and even if they are close in price, I will probably just go with the Denso sensors on ebay because it is so easy to order and pay for them with Paypal. It takes seconds and most big ebay sellers are really quick with their shipping.

I was just wondering what the difference was between the universal and OE style O2 sensors. I wasn't sure why anyone would get a universal sensor when the OE style is available and is almost the same price.

Just checked out the Toyota of Newnan parts website and the OEM O2 sensors were listed at $99 each. MSRP was $132. Yikes!

I'm going with the Denso sensor. Case closed.

Look on Amazon.com for the Denso OEM fit sensors after researching part numbers at Denso.com. You can most likely get them for around $50.00 each.

i've read other topics on the o2 sensors and I thought denso was OEM, and people seemed to say to stick with Denso. so sounds like you're on the right path.
