Default 92 ES300 bad catalytic converter?

I have a 92 ES300 that I bought a couple of months ago. When I bought it, the seller told me that it's really "cold natured" in the morning. Next morning, it starts fine but is really sluggish for 1/2 a mile or so, until the engine reaches normal operating temperature (which is really fast). But over the last couple of weeks, it's gotten worse. The car starts fine, but has almost no power when you put it in gear and start driving. The car sometimes tries to stall and I have to put it in neutral and keep working the gas pedal to smooth it out.

I've also noticed that recently the car sometimes loses some power after warming up. When this happens it is accompanied by a sound similar to an exhaust leak and a light rattling / vibrating sound that seems to come from under the car. Could this be a bad catalytic converter and is there a way to check it?

Clean the throttle body, and intake air control valve on the bottom, check the air filter, remove and clean the maf sensor with maf sensor spray cleaner, and make sure the clamps for the air tube running from the air cleaner to the throttle valve are tight. Check also for cracks in this same tube, if so replace it.

You might also want to check to see if your head gasket is blown. I had very similar symptoms to yours and it was the head gasket that fixed it all.

The car still feels kind of slow, but I haven't had the catalytic converter checked out yet.
