one of the few questions i can answer for you is what are the problem areas for an ES 300
i know for a fact that most es 300's have problems with their gaskets...in particular.....the valve cover gaskets...i just had mine replaced and about every other person on this forum has too....lexus place in charlotte charged just under $400 to replace it...but i got mine done for $150

on my 95 ES300 w/ 104,000 miles, i have replaced (due to maintenance, not any accidents that may have possibly, possibly, occurred):
- valve cover gaskets
- timing belt (didnt break, but was preventative maintenance)
- water pump, tensioners, etc
- left front cv boot
- rear struts
- tranny filter/screen (turns out no need to)
- air hose (broke, just like half the peeps here)
thats probably about it. basically the most broken-prone are the gaskets, speedo gauge cluster needles, air conditioner (bad expansion valve), air hose, and sometimes transmission. do a search on each of these by using the search function tab above, and you will get a better idea of the specifics for each item.
